Fatima school was built in honor of Fatima Mukhtar Ahmed by her son,
Pervez Mahmood, in the
year 2000.
Fatima was a remarkable woman who raised 4 children in Lahore, Pakistan during
difficult times. She was incredibly loving yet firm on discipline and ensured that her
children were instilled with the right values and ethics to be able to stand on their own
feet in the outside world. With Islam at the heart of her life, Fatima always remained
positive despite the challenges that life brought her, including losing her youngest son
aged 1. She ensured, along with her husband, that her children were able to receive a
good education and that they were equipped with the skills to be able to succeed in life and
have a bright future. Fatima returned to her creator in 1968, but her legacy lives on
through this school built in her honor.
Pervez was born in 1946, and grew up in Lahore, Pakistan where he studied until the age of 18. He left for the UK in 1966, with his father, to build his life and for better future prospects. Pervez developed his career with Her Majesty’s Metropolitan Police where he became a forensics specialist. Pervez married Rehana in 1970, and they had two children, Sapna and Omar. Having served Her Majesty’s Metropolitan Police for almost 25 years, Pervez decided to leave and let his entrepreneurial flair takeover. He became a successful property developer and also supported his wife grow a flourishing fashion business. Pervez struggled with various illnesses in the latter part of his life but his strength, willpower and faith in the Almighty kept him positive throughout. Pervez returned to his creator on 7th March, 2020, after battling lung disease for many years, but his legacy lives on through the various charitable initiatives he has developed and supported.
Fatima School is a privately owned not-for-profit school founded by Pervez Mahmood. His aim was to provide a good quality all round education to the young children of Cantt, Lahore, many of whom could not even dream of attending school or even have the resources to do so.
These principles remain today whereby children from any background can join the school, no fees are taken from parents whatsoever, and discipline is instilled into the children from the outset. With the support of friends, family and generous donors, and with the blessings of the Almighty, Pervez was able to fulfill his dream and leave behind a legacy that will continue to benefit generations to come.
The school is governed by a Board of Trustees, with representation from the local community, experienced educators, and Pervez’s children Sapna Sheikh and Omar Mahmood, and Omar’s wife Shazma Mahmood, all of who have been entrusted to continue this noble cause for the benefit of the children and local community of Cantt.
At Fatima School, we firmly believe that education is a right for all, and our mission is to provide a high quality education and the right opportunities to under privileged children to equip them with the skills and mindset to develop the right values and principles to become well rounded individuals.
